Family suing Kmart: Grandma died after cutting leg on store shelf

STREATOR, Ill. — The family of an 88-year-old woman is suing Kmart after she cut her leg on a shelf and later died from an infection.

According to NBC Chicago, Dolores Thompson was in a motorized scooter when she cut her leg on a metal shelf while trying to get around boxes. That happened Nov. 15, 2012. On Dec. 2, doctors found MRSA in her wound. Thompson died of MRSA sepsis in April 2014.

The lawsuit asks for $200,000 in damages and court costs.

The store where Thompson was injured is now closed.
