ASHLAND, Ohio -- A steady stream of mourners paid their respects at calling hours in Ashland on Sunday for Lynn Jackenheimer, 33, the mother of two who was murdered earlier this month. She was vacationing with her children and estranged boyfriend Nathan Summerfield, 27, in North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
John Owens, a friend of the victim, told Fox 8, “I'd say it's a fitting tribute to a very kind person, I mean Lynn lived the golden rule."
Investigators said Jackenheimer was stabbed and strangled on the Fourth of July by Nathan Summerfield, who had gone to the Outer Banks with Jackenheimer, their three-year-old son and Jackenheimer’s 13-year-old daughter.
Authorities said Summerfield then dumped her body and then drove the children back to Ohio, where he admitted to his brother that he had killed Jackenheimer and then vanished. Jackenheimer's body was discovered on July 14th. On Sunday, mourners outside the Wappner Funeral Home said they felt compelled to show support for the two children.
"I can't imagine what they're going through”, said Megan Cooper. “But my goal is just to help them in any way that I can and help find justice."
Weighing on the minds of Lynn Jackenheimer's family and friends is the fact that Nathan Summerfield to still out there somewhere and there will be no peace of mind in Ashland until he is tracked down by law enforcement.
"I don't think there can be until they can sleep, till they can rest, till we all can," said Cooper. "As a community, we just really want him caught and just want what's best for the family, to take the burden off their hearts."
Those who mourn the death of Lynn Jackenheimer wonder if Summerfield is still alive, and if he is where he is.
"Probably like a worm, hiding somewhere”, said John Owens. “I'd be checking homeless shelters and whatnot, where he could maintain his anonymity."
Anyone with information on Summerfield’s whereabouts is asked to call the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, or 911.
Funeral services for Lynn Jackenheimer will be held on Monday morning at 11:00AM at Grace Brethren Church, 1144 West Main Street in Ashland.
