Fake Mentor construction worker arrested again

MENTOR, Ohio- A man Mentor police call a “habitual aggressive fake construction worker” was arrested again.

Residents reported a man wearing a hard hat and fluorescent vest panhandling in the area on Reynolds Road near Industrial Parkway at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A Mentor detective recognized the man as Calvin Honey, of Cleveland. Police said Honey, who has a lengthy criminal record, was arrested earlier this year for pulling a similar scam.

When police saw Honey accept $20 from a driver, they detained him. According to police, he also shoplifted from a nearby gas station.

Honey was charged with begging, theft and possession of criminal tools. On Wednesday, he was sentenced to 89 days in the Lake County Jail.

Mentor police warn residents to think twice before giving strangers a ride or money.
