(CNN) — The FAA has announced it will close 149 regional airport control towers because of forced spending cuts — sparing 40 others. The FAA says it will begin a four-week phased closure of the 149 control towers beginning on April 7.
The Cuyahoga County Airport is on the list.
Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald released a statement on the tower closing: “Closure of the air traffic control tower at the Cuyahoga County Airport is a mistake and could have serious consequences. Aviation experts across the county have expressed concerns about the closures’ impact on safety and on overall air traffic in each surrounding community, beyond what will happen at each individual airport. We will continue to work with our congressional representatives to address this decision and will consider all possible responses.”
