STOW, OH -- There was extra security at what was supposed to be a 'family fun' event on Saturday night.

The extra officers at the Summer Sunset Blast in Stow were on hand after someone allegedly tried to abduct a young boy on Friday, the first night of the event.

Stow police tell Fox 8 that the 6-year-old boy told them he bit the suspect who picked him up and tried to take him to his truck.

Authorities said the young boy ran back to his family campsite, just off Young Road, and was screaming.

"A gentle reminder to families at any community event, whether it's in Stow or some other city. You want to keep your eye on your kids and your family members and you just want to keep tabs on what they are doing," said Stow Mayor Sara Drew.

The boy told police he couldn't recall where the incident happened. However, authorities said he was walking back to the family campsite after walking to the Summer Sunset Blast to watch a movie.

On Saturday evening, event workers were keeping an extra eye out for children at the community event.

While the Stow-Munroe Falls High School band played and people enjoyed the fair food, Mayor Drew explained there were a few extra police patrols as well.

"We're prepared for anything that can come up," Mayor Drew said.

Parents aren't taking any chances.

"We don't let them wander too far. I know a lot of people who kind of let their kids wander and drop them off," said Jenny Schrickel, a Stow resident with four children.

"Unfortunately, it's everywhere now, and you just have to keep a better eye on your kids and teach them how to protect themselves a little bit," said Melissa Hargrove, who came to the event with her two children.

The alleged victim gave police a limited description of the suspect, also telling them there could be a possible second suspect as well.
