(WJW) – Summer vacation is sticking around a little longer for some students in Northeast Ohio.
AVON LAKE CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Avon city schools announced that all the elementary schools in the district and Learwood Middle School are closed Wednesday for the heat.
Troy Intermediate School and Avon Lake High School are opened as scheduled.
The district is asking all elementary schools and Learwood Middle School families to please check their email for more information.
CLEVELAND METROPOLITAN SCHOOLS
Cleveland Metropolitan Schools announced that, due to ongoing excessive heat, the following schools will be closed on Wednesday: Bard High School Early College, Benjamin Franklin, Charles Mooney, Collinwood, Facing History New Tech, Louis Agassiz, Mary B. Martin, Mary Bethune, New Tech West, Newton D. Baker, Stonebrook-White Montessori Campus, Tremont Montessori and Valley View Boys’ Leadership Academy.
Cleveland Preparatory Academy will be closed Wednesday due to projected temperatures above 90°.
Due to the excessive heat index today and the increase in heat that is forecast for tomorrow, the Cuyahoga Falls City Schools will be closed Wednesday.
INDEPENDENCE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Independence Primary School students will be released three hours early on Wednesday and Thursday with parent pickup beginning at noon and bus riders dismissing at 12:15 p.m.
Lincoln Park Academy – Upper and Lower – will be closed on Wednesday due to excessive heat.
Massillon Schools announced that Franklin, Gorrell and Whittier elementaries is closed Wednesday due to the heat.
The Massillon Public Preschool, Washington High School, Massillon Junior High School and Massillon Intermediate School buildings will remain open.
Mentor Public Schools announced that all schools in the district will be closed Wednesday, as the majority of their learning spaces don’t have air conditioning.
Due to the expected high temperatures, Norton Primary, Norton Elementary and Norton Middle School will be closed on Wednesday.
Norton High School, which is air-conditioned, will still be in session.
Wednesday is a calamity day for Parma city schools because of excessive heat. All district functions, including classes in Parma Virtual Learning Academy, are also canceled.
The West Geauga Local Schools will be closed Wednesday due to extreme temperatures.
WILLOUGHBY-EASTLAKE CITY SCHOOLS
Willoughby-Eastlake Schools are closed Wednesday because of extreme temperatures.
