AKRON– A man pleaded guilty Tuesday in the death of his ex-girlfriend.

Chad Jay Cobb, 31, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, possession of criminal tools and domestic violence.

Authorities said Ashley Biggs, the mother of Cobb’s six-year-old daughter, was working as a pizza delivery driver when Cobb had a female caller lure Biggs to an empty office parking lot in New Franklin on the evening of June 20, 2012.

According to officials, Cobb tased and beat Biggs before strangling her to death with a zip tie. He then stuffed her body in the back seat of a car, which he abandoned in a cornfield in Chippewa Township in Wayne County.

Cobb and Biggs had been going through a very contentious custody battle over their daughter.

As part of the plea agreement, Cobb agreed to a sentence of life in prison with no parole eligibility. He faced the death penalty if the case went to trial.
