Euclid drowning victim was fishing before jumping into Lake Erie

EUCLID, Ohio- A Euclid man was fishing at Sims Park with a friend before he drowned Tuesday afternoon.

Euclid police said Christopher Hall, 30, jumped into Lake Erie and began to struggle. A 19-year-old man went into the water to help, but could not.

Other park visitors got the 19-year-old to safety.

The Euclid Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office and the Hillcrest Dive and Rescue Team searched for Hall. Police said his body was found about 74 feet from the fishing pier nearly two hours later.

Swimming is not permitted at Sims Park.
