MANITOWOC COUNTY, Wisc. — The mother of Steven Avery is speaking out for the first time since the screening of the hit Netflix show, “Making a Murderer.”

The series raises the question: Was Steven Avery was framed?

Avery was accused of gruesomely murdering photographer Teresa Halbach at the family’s salvage yard in 2005. He was sentenced to life in prison for her murder, and his nephew, Brendan, was also found guilty in the crime and sentenced to life in prison.

Both Steven and Brendan say they are innocent of the crime.

Prior to his conviction, Steven Avery had been falsely accused of rape and served 18 years in prison. He was exonerated in 2003 and was pursuing a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Manitowoc county and its sheriff when he was accused of murdering Halbach.

In court documents, Steven claimed his two brothers, Charles and Earl, may have murdered Halbach.

But Steven Avery’s mother, Dolores, tells Daily Mail Online that Steven “may have been extremely desperate about being sent back to prison” and made those allegations as a result. She said she believes all of her sons are innocent of the crime.

She also suggested that Halbach’s brother, Michael, could have been involved in Halbach’s death.

‘I don’t remember it much,’ Dolores told Daily Mail regarding the day Halbach visited the salvage yard. “She was here but then she left, that’s what I know. They say her brother [Michael Halbach] might have had something to do with it.”
