(CNN) — After Rosie O’Donnell remarked that Lindsay Lohan is neither right nor ready to play a young Liz Taylor in a Lifetime film, Lohan herself is questioning where O’Donnell’s getting her info from.

“It’s funny that someone you don’t know at all can say something so intrusive and so knowing,” the 25-year-old actress told “Access Hollywood” Tuesday evening.

O’Donnell told Matt Lauer on the “Today” show earlier that day that she feels “sorry” for Lohan, who’s been cast as the late legend in Lifetime’s “Liz & Dick.”

“She’s not in a place to work,” O’Donnell said. “I don’t think she’s right for the role, and I don’t think she’s capable at this point of doing what’s needed.”

Lohan’s rep fired back that O’Donnell should “focus on her own career right now and not worry about everyone else’s,” and even Lohan’s dad has joined the response train.

“Is Rosie in ANY position to judge anyone?” Michael Lohan inquired in a statement to the Huffington Post. “I will fight tooth and nail for what’s right! In this case, Rosie, you are wrong.”

Lifetime execs seem to agree. When the network announced that Lohan, who has been trying to resurrect her career after personal troubles began to eclipse it, was officially their Dame Taylor, the executive VP of programming for Lifetime called her “one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.”

And then there’s the fact, to hear producer Larry Thompson tell it, that Lohan “may be the most insured actress that ever walked on a soundstage,” as he said to E!.
