CLEVELAND – October 5th is the deadline to register to vote in next month’s general election in Ohio. After registering however, there are other dates to keep in mind for the November 3rd vote.
Voters who wish to vote absentee must apply for their absentee ballot by October 31st. Any Ohio voter may vote absentee in the election but they must request an absentee ballot. Click here to read about applying for an absentee ballot.
Want to vote early in-person? Starting October 6th (the day after the close of voter registration) all registered voters may request and vote an absentee ballot in person at their county board of elections or early voting center as designated by the county. Voters should check with their local board of elections for the process. Click here for a list of the state boards of elections.
There are local, county and statewide issues and offices being voted on next month. Of the three state issues, one deals with the way our legislative districts are drawn up, one is an anti-monopoly amendment and the third deals with the sale of marijuana for recreation and medicinal purposes. As far as local issues go, voters can click here to find a spreadsheet of all of the local issues that will appear on the ballot. To find out about local candidates, voters will need to contact their local board of elections. One notable local election being held is in Akron, where voters will choose a new mayor.
There are only municipal court judges on the ballot in November and a new site has been developed to help educate voters on their local judicial races. It’s called Judicial Votes Count. (Click here to go there) and provides voters with specific information their local judicial candidates. Judges in these races are not identified by party on the ballot.
