MOGADORE, Ohio -- It's a topic that's divided the Village of Mogadore for over a year. And on May 6, residents will vote for the third time on a 5.9-mill tax levy for area schools.

"Without the levy passing, we have two major aspects that are impacted. One is that the students of the school district will lose transportation to the school, and secondly we have an athletic fee that is accessed to our students to help us balance the budget," said Mogadore Schools Superintendant Christina Dinklocker.

This week, residents of Mogadore are getting a taste of what life without buses for their children will be. To test the traffic and drop-off points, parents whose children normally ride the bus are responsible for getting them to school or making them walk.

"There is a lot of car pooling going on, kids are having to walk that normally wouldn't, kids that are too young to be walking. It's great weather this week, but in the dead of winter, I can't see kids having to walk two miles," said Diana Morris, a mother of one of the students.

And how are the parents taking the change?

"If I have to work, I have to take time and get out if work to come over here and pick them up," said Casy Murray, a father of one of the students.

Some of the residents feel that they are already paying enough in taxes and should not have to pay more.

"They tried to pass it before and it hasn't passed," said Bill Northcraft. " Right now this more of a retirement town than a working town."

"The taxes are high enough. I'm on fixed income and retired. Every year it seems like the taxes go up," said Mogadore resident David Flaughers.

Last November, the levy failed by just under 200 votes, so once again it will be up to the voters.

"It's your duty. It's your responsibility. It's your business what you vote. But get out and vote," said Diana Morris.
