CLEVELAND, Ohio — The man accused of hitting a pedestrian and a van, killing the driver, has turned himself in to police.
Police say Nicholas Cantie, 26, turned himself in Tuesday at MetroHealth Medical Center after getting treatment for his injuries. He faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and felony hit skip.
The incident happened at just before 3 a.m. Saturday.
Police say Cantie was driving his 1997 Infiniti I30 east on Wade Park Avenue when he went through a red light. Police say Cantie hit a pedestrian walking in the cross walk along with the van, which was heading north on East 105th Street.
Police say that once the Infiniti came to a stop, Cantie got out of his car and took off from the scene without attempting to help his passenger, the driver of the van or the pedestrian.
The driver of the van was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The pedestrian was also taken to MetroHealth with a broken femur, neck, back and several other injuries.
The passenger of the Infiniti was also hurt.
