BROOK PARK, Ohio-- Dreams really do come true. Thanks to many caring people, a teenager will realize a dream he's had since he was a child.
17-year-old Kenny Otto has muscular dystrophy. The medical condition prevents him from his dream of becoming a soldier, but folks at the Ohio Army National Guard in Brook Park are doing something very special for Kenny.
They are making him an honorary member of their unit. He'll get a uniform and the chance to participate in drills with the unit. Sergeant Douglas Montgomery said, "You are never alone. Kenny is going through a hard fight right now. I think that's the biggest thing. I want him to know by being here with us, he is not alone."
Kenny received a special medal from the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Thursday. One veteran told Kenny, "As far as I'm concerned, you are a fellow soldier."
Kenny smiled early and often."I'm glad because I always wanted to hang out with the military," he said.
Now, he's getting his chance.
