CATAWBA ISLAND, Ohio – More than 100 people needed rescue at Catawba Island, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office tells FOX 8 the ice broke while people were ice fishing and some people fell in the water.
The sheriff says he was first contacted just after 8 a.m. Saturday.

The U.S. Coast Guard says everyone was safely rescued. They also add that “no ice is safe ice.”
The Ottawa County Sheriff, Coast Guard, Catawba Township police, Catawba Fire and EMS and Put-in-Bay Fire all worked the scene.
