NEW YORK– Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump put out a video statement following the release of a 2005 recording, in which he can be heard making crude, profane comments about women.

He released the video statement on his Facebook page and on Twitter, shortly after midnight.

In the video, Trump apologizes for the recording.  “I’ve never said I’m a perfect person.. I’ve said and done things I regret.. I said it; I was wrong and I apologize.”

Trump says the words he said more than a decade ago don’t reflect who he is.

The Washington Post obtained the video of Trump riding a bus for an “Access Hollywood” interview with then-host Billy Bush. In it, Trump said, “I did try to f*** her, she was married … and I moved on her very heavily.”

“Grab them by the p****,” Trump said. “You can do anything.”

As news of the recording spread, GOP leaders were quick to condemn the businessman’s remarks. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said he was “sickened” by the comments.

Trump canceled his planned appearance at a Wisconsin festival, where he was set to meet with Ryan, Gov. Scott Walker and Republican Party head Reince Priebus.

“Governor Mike Pence will be representing me tomorrow in Wisconsin. I will be spending the day in New York in debate prep with RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Jeff Sessions, and then flying to St. Louis on Sunday for the 2nd Presidential Debate.”
