Deputies arrest suspect in hit-and-run that killed Lorain teen

LORAIN, Ohio- Authorities arrested the man wanted in a hit-and-run crash that took the life of a 17-year-old Lorain boy, the Lorain County Sheriff's Department says.

Police issued an arrest warrant for 25-year-old Damion Cheers on Monday. He was arrested Tuesday afternoon for leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving without a license.

Cheers is being held at the Lorain City Jail.

Last week, Jayvian R. Johnson was walking with his girlfriend on West 23rd Street when he was hit by a car. Johnson, who had just enlisted in the Army, was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

Police impounded a silver, 2008 four-door Dodge Avenger in connection with the case on Wednesday.
