ATLANTA, Georgia-- Delta flights are now departing and a ground stop has been lifted, according to the airline, who posted an update just before midnight on its Facebook page.

Earlier Sunday night, Delta Airlines had halted all domestic ground flights due to a nationwide automation outage. But, the airline said its IT systems were beginning to return to normal.

The FAA, on its advisory page, said that the issue only affected domestic flights and that international flights were exempt from this.

About 150 flights have been cancelled; more are expected. The airline said some customers are experiencing delays upon landing as well.

“I want to apologize to all of our customers who have been impacted by this frustrating situation,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. “This type of disruption is not acceptable to the Delta family who prides itself on reliability and customer service. I also want to thank our employees who are working tirelessly to accommodate our customers.”

A waiver has been issued for travel scheduled on Jan. 29 and 30, for rebooking by Feb. 3.

In response to customer inquiries, the airline was responding that they were experiencing technical issues and that they were working to resolve them as quickly as possible.

This isn't the first time Delta has experienced technical issues. In August, the company lost power at its operations center in Atlanta early on the morning of Aug. 8, causing computers needed to book in passengers and fly jets to be down for nearly five hours.

The airline eventually canceled about 1,000 flights on the day of the outage and ground an additional 1,000 flights over the following two days. It also agreed to give affected customers refunds and vouchers for future travel.
