NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio — The daughter of a local couple found murdered on Tuesday suffered a brutal attack last week, a law enforcement source confirmed to Fox 8 I-Team reporter Peggy Sinkovich.

The source says the incident could be related to the deaths of 56-year-old Jeffrey Schobert, a prominent lawyer in Summit County, and his wife, 59-year-old Margaret Schobert, whose bodies were discovered in the bedroom of their Rex Lake Drive home.

According to a Akron police report, the couple’s 18-year-old daughter, Chelsea Schobert, suffered “numerous injuries,” including stab wounds and a skull fracture, when she was attacked at a house on Andrus Street in Akron back on March 23.

Arrested and charged in the attack is Jamayne Ruiz, 24, who is being held in jail for felonious assault on a $250,000 bond.

Now, according to the FOX 8 I-Team source, police have questioned the boyfriend of Chelsea Schobert in connection with her attack, and her parents’ murders.

He was released by authorities Tuesday night, and has not been charged.

Meanwhile, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and other agencies are still collecting evidence at the scene and following up on leads.

Limited details were being released Tuesday night; however, New Franklin police detective Mike Hitchings confirmed that Jeffrey Schobert was last seen walking his dog around 7 p.m. Monday. Hitchings also said there were no signs of forced entry to the home.

Autopsies were expected to be performed sometime today.

On Wednesday, Jeffrey Schobert’s law firm, Hanna Campbell & Powell, LLP, released the following statement:

“We are shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of Jeff and Peg Schobert.  We considered them part of our family, and we will be forever grateful to have worked alongside them.  The pain from their loss is immeasurable.  Jeff and Peg dedicated their lives to tirelessly serving others. Their kindness and generosity knew no bounds.  Our thoughts and prayers are with their family members, whom they cherished.”
