WESTLAKE, Ohio — Westlake’s Planning Commission approved plans Monday night to begin construction of a new addition to Crocker Park called Market Square.

“Right now the plan is to have the Market Square, which is a hard surface area of approximately one acre in size, that would include a loggia and a stage and a cover over the stage.  This space would be used for various events, craft shows, farmers’ market, music, and it could also include the possibility of an ice rink,” said Robert Parry, the Director of Planning for the City of Westlake.

“We’re excited for our new venture with the city to welcome our Market Square, and the Crocker Commons.  It is going to be a great addition to an already wonderful development,” said Tina Roberts, the general manager of Crocker Park.

The newly approved civic space will be located near Market and Vine streets in Crocker Park.  The Commons area will be just west of that.

“The area that right now is a lot of construction will be a green one acre park.  To the west of that where the bulldozer is will be an area for more condominiums,” added Parry.

Construction could possibly begin this year and be completed sometime in 2014.
