PARMA, Ohio- The body of a 16-year-old boy was pulled from a pond in Parma Monday afternoon.

Crews were called to Veterans Memorial Park on State Road in Parma. Fire officials said the drowning happened in a part of the pond where swimming is not permitted.

The Parma City School District said the victim, identified as Sergey Pivovarnik, and a group of football players went swimming in the pond after practice.

Pivovarnik, a junior at Parma Senior High School, was scheduled to enroll in the medical program at Normandy High School in the fall. He was a peer mentor and student worker.

Grief counselors will be available at Parma Senior High School's little theater from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday.
