AKRON, Ohio– Four people were killed in a house fire in Akron’s Kenmore neighborhood.
When crews arrived at 18th Street SW and Iona Avenue Wednesday morning, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
“Fire crews attempted multiple times to enter the structure to search for any trapped victims but was forced out due to heavy fire volume,” fire officials said in a news release on Wednesday.
Lt. Serjie Lash said the victims were a mother and three children, ages 5, 7 and 10. They were found in various parts of the house.
An Akron Metro RTA bus was at the scene to give firefighters a place to warm up. Water from the firefighting efforts has made the roads icy so a salt truck was also at the location.
Akron Firefighers Local 330 asked drivers to avoid the area to give crews room to work.
