TALLMADGE, Ohio — Fire crews in Tallmadge battled two blazes Sunday afternoon.
They were first called to Geneva Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, flames were shooting out of the roof of a business there, sending thick, black smoke high into the sky.
Tallmadge firefighters asked for help from neighboring Akron to get things under control.
“The building is a flat roof,” said Tallmadge Fire Chief Patrick Gaffney. “They trussed it back a couple of years ago, so pretty much the fire was all up in the attic space. We have some smoke damage on the interior, but the interior is in pretty solid shape.”
Investigators believe embers from the blaze blew about 100 yards away and caught some PVC pipe on fire at a city garage.
The cause is still under investigation.
No one was hurt in either fire.
