WEST COLUMBIA, South Carolina – After purchasing a used sectional couch on Craigslist, one family got more than they bargained for with their new buy.

After mother Katie Johns and her son discovered small red patches on their skin, they became curious and went to the doctor.

The diagnosis, likely bites from bed bugs.

“When I feel a tickle on my arm, like maybe the hair on my arm moves or I have a little itchy spot, I immediately think that I have a bug crawling on me,” Johns told WISTV.

They purchased the couch near Columbia, South Carolina and want their situation to encourage others to shop carefully on Craigslist.

Johns told WISTV that she still finds bugs under the couch, mostly dead or dying.

The $225 couch has cost nearly $3000 in extermination fees as well.

Johns said she was infuriated at the thought of the seller continuing to sell furniture with these bugs.
