University of Akron prepares dorms to house health care workers


AKRON, Ohio (WJW)– The University of Akron could house health care workers during the coronavirus outbreak.

The university said it is working with the Summit County Emergency Management Agency to use residence halls in the event hospital workers and other first responders need a place to stay.

The University of Akron said staff is cleaning out residence halls to prepare.

**Editor’s note on April 8, 2020: the university originally told FOX 8 on Tuesday it had finalized a contract with Summit County EMA; Wednesday, the university updated us that it had not yet been finalized.
