CLEVELAND– There is concern Wednesday in City Hall after the city’s community relations board sent out a controversial tweet from their social media account.

“I was so emotionally caught up in what was happening in Baltimore that I opened up my laptop and I went to my Twitter page,” said Ward 15 councilman Matt Zone.

But what Councilman Zone saw on the city’s Community Relations Board official twitter account Tuesday night shocked him.

“The tweet said, should Cleveland burn down?  #bmore.  #ferguson.  #hough. #central.,” said Zone.

But it didn’t stop there.

Three minutes later, the board’s twitter account tweeted out, “Have heart! Don’t hide in the shadows! Should #ourcle be burned down? Speak up.”

“I immediately thought back to the pain of not only what people in Baltimore are going through and what individuals in Ferguson went through, but it gave me flashbacks to the Hough riots back in the late 60s,” said Zone.

Councilman Zone said in light of what’s happening in Baltimore, as well as the ongoing Michael Brelo trial here in Cleveland, he’s concerned the board’s use of social media will incite rather than engage the community.

The CRB has since erased the tweets and replaced them with:

“Our intention with the #ourcle campaign was to create a conversation online surrounding community and police relations.”

“We apologize for recent inappropriate #ourcle tweets sent from this account. They were not in the spirit of what we intended to do.”

“If you are going to have a page that comes out and represents the city, you have to be responsible for what you put out there.  I felt that crossed the line,” said Zone.
