BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — A man who went missing after attempting to help a female in the water at Huntington Beach Saturday has been found dead.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the search for 43-year-old Peter Radke, of Medina, was called off at about 9:15 p.m. when he was found.
Bay Village police said he was found in shallow water.
Officers received a call just before 6 p.m. reporting that a young female had been lost in the water at the beach. The female was found and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Information regarding her condition is not yet available.
After the female was found, crews realized that the man had gone into the water earlier to help find her.
Police are calling the man a hero.
“This man is a hero. He went into help a young woman and lost his life in the process,” said Chris Lyons, who is the Bay Village Fire Chief.
Crews from 11 agencies were part of the search. At least three boats and a helicopter also assisted.
