ASHTABULA, Ohio – A former Lakeside High School wrestling coach fired for not stopping two students from fighting, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct Thursday.
Jerry Brady was fired in February after a school security camera captured him failing to stop one of his wrestlers from assaulting a fellow student in January. An investigation revealed that Brady and the 17-year-old wrestler were upset that a 16-year-old student, who is a former member of the team, was carrying a Lakeside wrestling bag.
According to police, when the 17-year-old student tried to take bag, the younger boy tried to defend himself.
A police investigation concluded Brady failed to intervene.
In addition to the disorderly conduct charge, Brady was given a $150 fine which was suspended, and he only had to pay court costs.
The 17-year-old student involved in the incident was removed from the school, and faced several charges.
