CLEVELAND, Ohio — After four days of voting, members of the Cleveland Teachers Union have passed a new tentative agreement that will run through June 2016.
The agreement was passed by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District Board of Education earlier this month and will become the collective bargaining agreement between the district and the Cleveland Teachers Union, according to the union.
Union President David Quolke said the vote “once again highlights that Cleveland teachers and educators are willing to lead school reform efforts in Cleveland. CTU members, through the collective bargaining process, are committed to improving the quality of education for all of Cleveland’s children.”
The contract calls for a longer school day along with a 4 percent raise for union members in year one of the contract.
“This agreement will play a significant role in transforming Cleveland’s schools and building on the culture of collaboration that has been so essential to our progress this year,” said Board of Education Chair Denise Link.
“The negotiating process and the outcome of these talks are a testament to the culture change that is already taking place in the District,” said CEO Eric Gordon. “Reaching agreement in our contract negotiations before the end of the school year means that all of us can put our focus on where it needs to be–on fully implementing the Cleveland Plan.”
