CLEVELAND– Cleveland Public Power wants its customers to be aware of a scam.

They said some people are receiving phone calls from a man pretending to be a representative of Cleveland Public Power’s collection department. The caller is reportedly asking for $400 to prevent service from being interrupted.

CPP said the calls are coming from area code 801.

Commissioner Ivan Henderson said, “Residents should be cautious of anyone seeking payment over the telephone. The City of Cleveland’s Department of Public Utilities does not call asking for payment over the telephone and we do not accept payments at your home. Any suspicious activity like this should be reported to the Cleveland Police Department.”

The Department of Public Utility Police Department is looking into this.
