CLEVELAND- The Cleveland Police Patrolman’s Union has come under fire for raffling off a Glock pistol to raise money for an officer accused of shooting an unarmed teenager.

The mother of 18-year-old Brandon Jones told Fox 8’s Lorrie Taylor the Aug. 8 fundraiser makes a mockery of her son’s death.

A flier, posted in the Cuyahoga County Justice Center, advertises a fundraiser at the CPPA Memorial Hall. For a $20 donation, attendees are entered to win a Glock 26 and a smart TV.

CPPA President Steve Loomis said no offense was ever intended.

“Raffling off a Glock in a police community is like raffling off M&Ms at a kid’s birthday party,” Loomis said.

Jones was shot and killed by police at a store near Parkwood Drive and Primrose Avenue in March. Officers were called to a possible burglary and police said a struggle took place when they tried to arrest him. One officer fired a single shot, hitting Jones, who died at an area hospital.
