CLEVELAND — Cleveland police want you to be on the lookout for a black SUV with a broken windshield and front-end damage.

That is the description of the vehicle that hit and critically injured a 12-year-old girl on the near west side Friday evening, and sped off.

It happened on West 31st St. and Denison Ave. about 7 p.m.

Witnesses said the girl was with her friends and crossing the street to go to a neighborhood McDonald’s when it happened.

“He hit that baby from right there, knocked that baby out her shoes.  That baby landed over there by the warning sign and she just lay there until the ambulance got there.  She wasn’t moving, she wasn’t doing anything,” Lorna Grayson said.

She flew about 30-feet, witnesses said.

The unidentified girl was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center with severe injuries, according to police.

“She was running across the street and he hit directly on, hit her right on, and she flew in the air and to the side and he did not even hesitate to stop,” witness Nicole Reed said.

Witnesses said the SUV was traveling very fast.

“But the SUV kept going and the windshield was splattered and the headlight was busted so if you see that SUV, get ’em!”  Grayson said.

Witnesses said the SUV ran a red light after he hit the girl as he sped off.

Neighbors and witnesses are praying the girl survives.

If you have any information on who this man may be you are asked to call the Cleveland Police Accident Investigation Unit at (216) 623-5295.
