CLEVELAND– The Cleveland Division of Police held a news conference on Wednesday to provide an update on the shooting on Buckeye Road that left a boy dead and five other juveniles injured.
Police Chief Calvin Williams said a 21-year-old woman was arrested in the case. He said charges will be reviewed, and her name and photograph could be released later on Wednesday.
Six juveniles were shot Friday night in the area of Buckeye Road and East 112th Street. Police already arrested two teens in the case.
“Our stance here is to make people understand… if you are involved in a violent crime in this city, in any way, shape or form, you are subject to the same punishment as the person who actually pulled the trigger,” Williams said.
Abdel Bashiti, 12, was shot when he stepped outside the beauty supply store, owned by his family. He died from his injuries at the scene.
“The shooting that occurred on Friday has touched a nerve in this community,” said Cuyahoa County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley. “The community stands with us in this matter. They are not going to take it anymore.”
The police chief also provided more information on Sunday’s homicide on Parkmount Avenue. A 28-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he passed away. Williams said a second suspect was arrested in the shooting.
