CLEVELAND – FOX 8 has learned of yet another investigation with a powerful-looking airsoft handgun. These cases are generating more attention because of the Cleveland Police shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice.
Last November, an officer said the boy reached into his waistband for a weapon, and the officer shot and killed him. The weapon turned out to be an airsoft pistol. That case is still under review by the prosecutor’s office.
In this latest case, a man said he found what appeared to be a revolver in his yard in the 14100 block of Emory in Cleveland. A neighbor told him that just days earlier, police had stopped a stolen car. A group of guys ran off, and they had run through that yard.
We’ve seen a number of recent investigations involving airsoft-style guns.
Police say the gun this time even uses real-looking cartridges holding the ammunition.
