CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams and the family of fallen Officer David Fahey thanked the public for all their support after the patrolman's hit-skip death.

Fahey's father, Mark Ketterer, was also there and said the outpouring of sympathy and support was overwhelming for their family.

"To stand at the side of the road during the was very moving for us to see that," he said. "Thank you."

Fahey was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver along Interstate 90 in January while directing traffic. Israel Alvarez was later arrested and faces charges in that crash.

Williams said at the press conference Tuesday that he couldn't thank the public enough for turning out for services and for mementos sent from all over the country.

"You guys were great," he said. "You came out to David's ceremonies, supported his family, supported our law enforcement family. And we can't thank you enough."
