CLEVELAND — Cleveland firefighters are back on scene downtown after some kind of explosion caused multiple manhole covers to blow off into the street.

Officials say it happened around 9:30 p.m. near the Standard building located at 99 West Saint Clair Avenue.

It’s unclear what caused the explosion, but no active fire or injuries were reported. The Illuminating Company is also on scene.

Earlier in the evening, firefighters responded to West 2nd street for a manhole cover that popped off due to an underground electrical fire.

Cleveland Police have Saint Clair from East 6th and West 3rd and Rockwell to Ontario closed for the time being.
