CLEVELAND-New figures show Cleveland’s murder rate has dropped, but the number of shootings with serious injuries has increased.

The police chief’s office says as of last Friday, Cleveland had 36 murders for this year. Last year to the same date, the number was 44.

That number does not include the tragic shooting that claimed three lives over the weekend. Police believe a man on the city’s west side killed his ex-lover and her grandparents and then killed himself.

Meantime, crime stats as of May 16 show the number of non-deadly shootings with serious injuries has risen. Felony assault shootings have gone up 15 percent over a year ago.

The number of rape cases has also risen nearly 13 percent. Burglaries have dropped 24 percent.
