CLEVELAND- A woman and her husband say they’re now living in fear 24/7 after chilling phone messages, and they say the caller is a man wanted for recently escaping from a Cleveland jail.

The FOX 8 I-Team heard the messages. They include phrases such as, “Never ---- with a man's life or his freedom. Bad idea," and, "You tell that snitchin' ---- Roxanne that she stepped out on the porch the other day, she was caught right in the crosshairs of a 30-06 (rifle)."

A police report names Darryl Smith a suspect for telephone harassment. Police already have been looking for Smith since August. They say he escaped from the Cleveland House of Corrections in Highland Hills through a kitchen door left unlocked. Court records show he had been doing time for threatening to kill an ex-lover.

Darryl and Roxanne Mason said they believe Smith is angry at them because they wouldn’t help him after he escaped.

"I told all my neighbors, you see someone around here that shouldn't be here, shoot first and ask questions later," Darryl Mason said.

The I-Team learned police are also investigating new threats against the woman Smith was convicted of trying to kill. The messages also include the phrase, “Watch the news now because it isn't over yet. It's a long way from over, baby.”

U.S. Marshals are looking for Smith. They think he is still in Cleveland. If you know where he is, please call 866-4WANTED. You could get a reward.
