BARBERTON — A Cleveland police officer was arrested early Sunday on a drunk driving charge after she was pulled over for speeding.

According to Sgt. John Hromiak with the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Melanie R. Wilson was stopped by a trooper just before 3 a.m. Sunday for driving 53 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone on Eastern Road in Summit County.

Hromiak said that Wilson agreed to take a breathalyzer test and blew a .171, which is over twice the legal limit.

Wilson noted at the time that she had a gun and was a Cleveland police officer, Hromiak said.

She was booked into the Summit County Jail, but was no longer being held there as of Sunday evening.

A charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated has been filed against Wilson. Hromiak said Wilson also faces a charge of having weapons under disability because she was in possession of a loaded weapon while allegedly driving drunk.
