CLEVELAND– The Cleveland Clinic is expanding its reach, announcing an agreement to become a minority owner of the Akron General Health System; that includes the 532-bed Akron General Medical Center.
The agreement allows Akron General to keep its non-profit status. Controlling interest in the Akron General Health System will also remain local, while the clinic will make a substantial investment in Akron General and its related facilities.
Cleveland Clinic CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove released the following statement: “This agreement has been a long time in the making and through the process, we have come to truly understand and respect each other’s strengths. We know that it is the right fit for both of our organizations and the communities we serve.“
