CLEVELAND, Ohio --
A young boy was shot to death by his older brother at his family home early Monday morning.
According to the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office, 10-year-old Cameron Roberts, of Cleveland, was pronounced dead at MetroHealth Medical Center after police say he was shot in the stomach.
Investigators say the boy’s 13-year-old brother was handling a gun inside a home on Dove Avenue when it discharged.
Late Monday afternoon, Cleveland police confirmed the brother was arrested for homicide and is currently in custody at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.
Family friend Lenoris Holbert, Jr. said, “The older brother, I done had him in my house. I used to, two Christmases ago, I bought him Christmas presents.”
One neighbor said, “It's sad; it's very sad. The bullet could have went in our house ... thank God it didn’t.”
Investigators will not comment on who the gun belonged to or how the teen was able to access the weapon. Neighbors believe the shooting was accidental, but at this point, police decline to comment citing a pending investigation.
“It’s just sad to see him gone, someone you see every day, you talk to,” said neighbor Brittany Warren.
A spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office said a complaint was brought down on charges of involuntary manslaughter and discharge of a weapon on/near a prohibited premise.
The boy, whose name is not being released, is expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning.
