CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Republican National Convention could lead to turmoil in the streets, so a citizens group formed to support police is organizing prayer rallies for safety forces on the Saturday at the start of convention week events.
The Sea of Blue Group is asking people to get together and pray for safety forces on Saturday, July 16.
A Sea of Blue Facebook posting notes, “Our city is on edge. Out safety forces are on edge.”
So the group wants people to go to their local district police station in Cleveland, or their local police department headquarters in the suburbs. The goal is “one giant city/surrounding community prayer vigil for the safety of our safety forces and our communities.”
Mary Jo Graves formed the Sea of Blue in 2014 as police locally and nationally became targets of more and more intense criticism and scrutiny over use of force and other issues.
As for this event tied to the RNC, Graves said, “How do you prepare for something as big as this with the state of affairs today?” She added, “We want everyone to come together, pray to whatever God they pray to. Pray for our city and the safety of the men and women who protect us.”
The group is asking people to gather for their prayer rallies at 1 p.m. on July 16.
