CLEVELAND -- A local family that has suffered a great loss is spreading the word that we need to watch our children more closely.

The mother and fiance of Christina Adkins gathered with other friends and family members at the Clark Fields Saturday evening in Tremont for a candlelight vigil. They want to raise awareness for other missing people in Northeast Ohio.

Even though it's too late for Christina, her family tells Fox 8 News they want to help other missing people get home safely.

Deborah Marmol explained that she said goodbye to her daughter too soon.

"It has been pure hell, pure hell," she said. "Christy's up there helping me. Christy and the baby, they are helping."

Adkins was 18 when she went missing in 1995.  She was five months pregnant.

"She's in heaven, she's in good hands," said Jose Rivera, Christina's fiance.

The permanence of the loss of Christina is still sinking in. Back in October, the young woman's remains were found along an area of I-90 and State Route 176 south near the highway overpass.

Elias Acevedo was charged with her death, along with that of another woman.

"Trying to hang in there. I know it's hard for me, but I just got to keep going
forward," Rivera said. "I leave this in God's hands," he added.

The victim's heartbroken fiance said he is just trying to make it through every day with Christina in mind.

At the vigil, many wore a shirt with Christina's picture on it, just another way to keep her memory alive. Her mother told Fox 8 News that we should never forget her or other missing children.

"People watch out for their children, don't let your eyes off of them for a second," Marmol said.

She also said to never give up hope.

"Keep on the police, keep on the detectives, keep on all these people, don't let them throw them aside," she said.
