CLEVELAND - As friends, family and the public bid farewell to Congressman Louis Stokes, Cleveland City Council made sure that he and his brother, former Cleveland Mayor Carl Stokes, will always be remembered in the city they grew up in.

The Stokes brothers grew up on what was then called East 69th with their parents. As the motorcade left Olivet Institutional Baptist Church for Stokes' burial in Lakeview Cemetery, it made one last drive by that street, which is now known as "Louis and Carl B. Stokes Way."

There are several landmarks in Cleveland that bear the Stokes name, including the Federal Courthouse, the VA Center in University Circle and the Cleveland Public Library downtown.
