GARRETTSVILLE, Ohio — Fire investigators have ruled the cause of a fire that destroyed several buildings in downtown Garrettsville March 22 as undetermined.
Garrettsville firefighters had the mutual aid of more than 100 firefighters from 34 neighboring departments during the fire. It took more than seven hours to bring the blaze under control.
Fire investigators said while the cause is undetermined, they cannot rule out the ignition of roofing materials. They did not find any evidence that indicates any criminal activity.
The historic Buckeye Building was one of four structures that were reduced to rubble during the fire.
Thirteen businesses were lost in the fire, including a used-furniture shop, a craft shop, a clock repair business, a food pantry, a podiatrist and two attorney’s offices.
