MENTOR, Ohio- Two cats were rescued from horrific conditions after they were found in an abandoned car.
According to the Lake Humane Society, in April, a car was towed to a repair shop in Mentor.
The smell inside the car was so bad, the mechanic thought there was a dead body inside.
He called police who then called humane agents from the Lake Humane Society.
Two cat carriers with two cats inside were found under clothing and other debris that was inside the car.
The carriers were filled with urine and fecal matter. The cats suffered from ‘urine scalds.’
They were taken to the shelter where they were bathed, examined and cared for.
Two people were found guilty of companion animal cruelty and can never have another pet.
The cats– named Smokey and Lila– are now happy and healthy and looking for a forever home together.
If you are interested in adopting the cats, you can call the shelter at (440) 951-6122.
