MENTOR, Ohio -- People in Mentor gathered Friday night to honor Mentor Police Officer Mathew Mazany.

The public was invited to attend a candlelight vigil at the Mentor Civic Amphitheater.

The vigil celebrated Officer Mazany’s life as well as commemorated the sacrifice he made for his community. The 41-year-old was killed in a hit-and-run in the line of duty Sunday.

Officer Mazany's big brother, Mike, spoke at the vigil. He thanked the community for their incredible support and shared a touching story about how he had always wanted a baby brother and he got one in Mathew.
