LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio –The Lorain County Coroner’s Office on Saturday released the name of the person killed in a crash that involved a tour bus on the Ohio Turnpike.

Cynthia Dent, 40, of Detroit, sustained head and trunk injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was driving and was the only person in her vehicle, but the accident involved multiple vehicles and caused injuries to 10 others.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened after 11 p.m. Friday near mile marker 139. The accident shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 between exits 135 and 140 for several hours. All of the impacted lanes have since reopened.

A passenger of the Lakefront Line charter bus told Fox 8 News that the bus struck a car that was “perpendicular” across the road. The impact reportedly knocked the driver unconscious, prompting some of the passengers to rush to the front of the bus to help. That’s when, one witness said, he took the wheel and steered the bus to safety about a half mile away.

Seven vehicles were involved in the crash, but the OSHP did not immediately release other details.

A spokesman for LifeCare Ambulance said its emergency units took 10 people to area hospitals. The conditions of the injured ranged from critical (one person); serious (two people), while seven others sustained minor injuries.

According to other passengers, the bus left from Fremont Friday night and was headed to New York City for a tour.

The charter service, which specializes in casino tours, confirmed the accident but declined to provide further comment.

Lakefront Line’s website states that it is the largest motorcoach company in Ohio, with offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo and Cincinnati.
