CLEVELAND — Browns president Mike Holmgren made an appearance in the media room on Monday and stated he is not sure what his future holds.

Friday will be his last official day in Berea. Coaching has been rumored, and possibly some work with a nonprofit organization. He said he “got the house a little bit in order here”, and restated he did not know how tough it would be to watch a football game and not be involved in coaching. Suffice to say, the executive, who is called “Coach” by everyone in Berea said for the near future he will be in Phoenix with his wife and will be riding his motorcycle down there. Beyond that, he is not sure.

Browns new CEO Joe Banner talked to the media and said Holmgren is free and clear in no matter what he pursues. That means there will be no compensation due the Browns from any team Holmgren potentially works for. Banner thanked Holmgren for his advice in the short time they worked together in the transition process. He also said that he was the person who put a stop to the “White Flag” promotion that was planned for this past Sunday that was soundly criticized by fans, media, and even players. He declined to talk about who came up with the idea, and thus did not finger blame on anyone. The Browns say it’s a close issue.

The Browns are not sure who will be taking snaps on Sunday. Brandon Weeden suffered a concussion when his head struck the knee of tackle Joe Thomas. Pat Shurmur said at his press conference that Weeden is “in the building” and going through the NFL concussion protocol. Beyond that, Shurmur was not specific. He did voice support for second string QB Colt McCoy saying he “has all the confidence in the world in Colt”, and praised him for how he has handle this season in a “professional way”. He also said McCoy knows the offense better this season than a year ago.

The Browns will be in Oakland Sunday to face the Raiders.
