ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Officer Michael Brelo and his twin brother have pleaded not guilty to assault charges.

Michael Brelo and his brother, Mark, were charged with one count each of misdemeanor assault for the incident on May 27 in Bay Village. Mark also faces a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

Court records show that the brothers’ attorneys entered the pleas on their behalf today.

On May 23, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge John O’Donnell found Michael Brelo not guilty on two counts of voluntary manslaughter for the deaths of Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams. Prosecutors said Brelo acted unreasonably when he fired 49 shots into Russell’s car following a 22-minute chase through the city of Cleveland.
